TORNADO HITS CLOSE TO HOME
DATE: Feb 07 2008, 3:26 pm / MOOD: Other

Many of you might have seen on the news where severe storms along with extreme tornadoes hit the states of Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama. You always see it on the news, your heart goes out to those effected, but its different when it hits right in your own community.

40 miles away in Macon Co. Tennessee, an F2 tornado 3/4 of a mile wide raged through the county at around 10:30 Tuesday night, killing at least 13 people with around that many missing. 200 Families are homeless, most of the county is still without running water or electricity.

A bitter sweet moment happend to one of our own MyRacePage.com members. Wilson County EMT David Harmond as he along with other emergency crews searched for survivors shortly after the tornado struck. David found what he thought was a doll, but turned out to be a baby in a field. He quickly grabbed the baby to check for a pulse, when it let out a cry. My hat off to you David, and everyone thats helped and helping in this time of need. THANK YOU.

WHAT ABOUT KASEY KAHNE GOING TO COURT YESTERDAY FOR PUSHING DOWN A SECURITY GAURD AT HOMESTEAD? LET ME GUESS... KASEY WHO? LOL PEOPLE ARE SAYING AS BAD OF A SEASON HE HAD THIS YEAR, HE HAD TO MAKE HEADLINES SOMEHOW... LOOKS LIKE HE COULD BE PAYING SOME HEFTY FINES, POSSIBLY PROBATION.

WHAT ABOUT RICK HENDRICKS DONATING A WHEELCHAIR VAN TO THE FAMILY OF AN INJURED SOLIDER? YEP, HE SAW THEIR STORY ON THE NEWS WHERE THE SOLIDER HAD BEEN INJURED OVERSEAS AND WAS IN A HOSPITAL IN TEXAS. IN NEED OF A WHEELCHAIR VAN, AND NOT BEING ABLE TO AFFORD ONE, HENDRICKS CALLED THEM TO TELL THEM THAT HE HAD ONE HE WANTED TO DONATE TO HIM FOR SERVING FOR OUR COUNTRY. THE WHEELCHAIR VAN WAS VALUED AT $50,000.

LETS SPREAD A LITTLE HOLIDAY CHEER!

HOW ABOUT A CHRISTMAS STORY?

TWAS' THE OFF SEASON OF RACING

Twas the off season of racing,
     and all through the town,
People were waiting anxiously,
to watch the cars go 'round.
The racecars are nestled,
     all snug in their sheds,
While visions of red clay,
     dance in our heads.
When to our surprise,
     there's talk of next year,
We sprang to our feet,
     gleaming with cheer.
Now latemodels, sportsmen,
     minis and modifieds,
On cruisers, limiteds
      and front wheel drives.
Out to the shed,
     out to the shop,
We've got to get busy,
     there's no time to stop.
New tires, new wheels,
     new motor and more,
And don't forget the numbers
     on both of the doors.
Just a few more months,
     it's almost in site,
Patience to all,
     for it's almost race night!!!!!

THIS WAS SUBMITTED BY: BROWN EYED GIRL ON THE MRM RACING MESSAGE BOARD

WELL THATS ABOUT IT FOR ME. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

CHECK THIS OUT! NEW PAINT SCHEME FOR 2008!
DATE: Nov 22 2007, 7:23 am / MOOD: Wired

The 2008 season will be here sooner than we think, so i've been working hard to keep on schedule! I talked with my graphics guy this week, and he made a rendering of a possible paint scheme for 2008. I'm picky when it comes to the way my cars look, but i think i am satisfied with the first one he did? This will also be used in sponsorship proposals to show potential sponsors the location of where their name would be on the car.

Tell me what think! You guys need to help me pick out something that is eye catching and something the fans will like!

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

GORDON - JOHNSON TUG-O-WAR
DATE: Oct 31 2007, 5:08 pm / MOOD: Other

By Official Release
October 31, 2007
03:09 PM EDT

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The teammate tug-o-war between Hendrick Motorsports brethren Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson will likely continue this weekend in the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

The gap between first and second in the standings -- nine points -- has not been this small with three races left since the Chase for the Nextel Cup began in 2004.

Nor has the Chase been this competitive.

Figuring that Gordon has averaged a fifth-place finish over the last two races and still lost 59 points proves that neither he nor Johnson can settle for top 10s. Only visits to Victory Lane will do, it seems.

So, who has a better chance of claiming victory this weekend?

In Gordon's case, a study of his more recent Texas races might paint a clearer picture.

NASCAR started using scoring loops embedded in the track for statistical purposes in 2005. Since the inception of Loop Data, Gordon has solid numbers at Texas: a Driver Rating of 92.3, an Average Running Position of 12.5 and 85 Fastest Laps Run.

But his strongest numbers came in the last two Texas races.

In the two 2005 Texas races and the first 2006 event, Gordon averaged a finish of 17.0. In the two races since, he has an average finish of 6.5.

Below are Gordon's combined/average numbers from the first three Texas races since 2005 compared with the last two races there:

2005-200617.017.11334.3%75.6
Last Two6.55.77295.7%117.2

Having apparently rebounded from a few bad outings at the 1.5-mile track, the stats show Gordon will be coming into Texas with momentum.

Johnson, on the other hand, has just one poor result at Texas since 2005 -- a 38th-place finish in this season's spring race.

Still, the statistics show that Johnson's performance at that race was much stronger than his finish would suggest:

Jimmie Johnson

2007 Texas spring race
DateFinishAvg. Run PositionFastest Laps RunLaps in Top 15Driver Rating

Johnson's Driver Rating was ninth-best overall in the April race and before trouble ended his victory hopes, Johnson spent 238 of his 260 laps in the top 15.

Johnson has eight career races at Texas, and has finished outside the top 10 only once. Since 2005, he has failed to eclipse the 90.0 Driver Rating mark only once. Below are Johnson's stats at Texas since 2005:

As was the case the last two weeks, Johnson holds the advantage in pre-race Driver Rating. Below is the tale-of-the-tape for Gordon at Texas since 2005:

DALE JR. - HENDRICKS TEST SESSION
DATE: Oct 31 2007, 4:54 pm / MOOD: Other

By Mark Aumann,
October 30, 2007
04:40 PM EDT

HAMPTON, Ga. -- For Dale Earnhardt Jr., Monday's tire test at Atlanta Motor Speedway was like being the new kid in town on the first day of school.

After getting a taste of what it's like to drive a Hendrick Motorsports car when he took the wheel of Kyle Busch's banged-up Chevrolet for a few laps at Texas earlier this season, Junior's new adventure kicked off for real in a specially painted No. 5 Chevrolet with a retro All-Star Racing paint scheme, circa 1984.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. drove a white and red No. 5 during the test at Atlanta.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. drove a white and red No. 5 during the test at Atlanta.

Check out what Dale Earnhardt Jr. had to say about testing in a Hendrick Motorsports car.

"I think the hard part for me is just, it's like going to a new school, making new friends," Earnhardt said. "It's hard to make friends. It's hard to build relationships. Starting all over with a new group of guys, I had such a great rapport and great relationship with all the guys on my team I'm currently with, and to have to go through the challenge of that and building that respect and trust, you know, with a whole new group's gonna be tough.

"They seem like they're willing to have a great attitude, willing to work really well. So it should be just a matter of time. Just getting to know everybody, remembering everybody, everybody's name, getting to understand and learn their personalities, the ins and outs of every member on the team. That's going to be the only challenge."

At least Junior knows somebody. His cousin, Tony Eury Jr., will be his crew chief in 2008. The two spent Monday going through a checklist of things they'd like to try during the two days of testing.

"We haven't really tore through our list of things to do," Earnhardt said. "We just sort of run both cars a couple times, tried some rear shocks. Now we're redoing this one car with a totally different setup. We didn't get a chance to get out on the racetrack with it.

"We haven't really delved into the technical side of it yet. We're just sort of driving the cars, making sure nothing scared me, making sure there's no big problems, anything like that. So the cars drive really good and very comfortable. One's got a set that I've been running in it, running for a long time. The other's got a seat that -- new carbon fiber seat. We're trying that out, getting used to that, getting the bugs out of that."

Junior said the biggest difference he noticed between his new Hendrick ride and the cars from the Dale Earnhardt Inc. stable was in the steering.

"The steering is smoother," Earnhardt said. "I think the theory and the method that Hendrick takes in putting their geometry together and putting this front suspension -- how the front suspension's assembled -- makes the car steer smoother. That's the way the 5 car felt at Texas. It was quite a bit different than my car at Texas. It's a little bit the same here."

For a driver, testing is rarely exciting. But in this instance, Earnhardt said there's a little more to it than just getting in the car and cranking off laps.

"Well, the actual physical testing part is mundane, of course," he said. "But I was excited. Rick is going to be here any time. I'm excited to see him. I'm excited to watch Tony Jr. work with the new guys. I'm excited to see the expressions on their face, their mannerisms, their attitude about the whole thing.

"I was looking forward to that waking up this morning, but I knew the physical testing part of it would be relatively as boring as it always is. Plus, like I say, I've been here all weekend. I think NASCAR is trying to punish us for some reason with this scheduling deal. But it is a lot more convenient. But, man, it makes for quite a long week."

So does he now feel like a Hendrick driver?

"I don't know what that's supposed to feel like," Junior said. "I think that will probably be the feeling I have when I go to test in Daytona. You know, I'm getting an opportunity to work with these guys a little early, but I'm still focused and dedicated toward finishing my job with dignity over at the 8 car.

"That's important to me, that we keep working and work hard. I would regret if we end up not doing that. I feel like those guys are very welcoming and excited. But I think it really won't sink in until we go to Speedweeks testing."

NASCAR - WATER IN FUEL
DATE: Oct 31 2007, 4:51 pm / MOOD: Other

By Mark Aumann, NASCAR.COM
October 29, 2007
06:12 PM EDT

HAMPTON, Ga. -- The contaminated fuel that caused Denny Hamlin's car to stall near the end of Sunday's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway might have been added to the car's fuel tank as early as Friday morning, according to Nextel Cup director John Darby.

Speaking Monday during a two-day test session, Darby said NASCAR and Sunoco are actively pursuing the cause of the contaminated water that affected "more than two and less than 43" of the cars in the Pep Boys Auto 500.

Autostock

Sputtering Hamlin

Denny Hamlin's inability to get going on a late-race restart was due to another liquid that was found in the fuel cell.

"Obviously, we're pumping out of the same pumps, the same tanks [during Monday's test] as we did [Sunday] with no issues," Darby said. "The way, typically, any amount of water that winds up, especially from dispensing the fuel, typically will settle out of suspension, showing up with the very first fills of the event. What our suspicions are is that some of the very early gas that was pumped out as early as Friday morning could have been where the contamination started."

Darby has asked Nextel Cup teams to systematically disassemble their fuel filters and fuel cells from the cars involved in Sunday's race, in order to determine how widespread the problem might be. In addition, he's asking Craftsman Truck Series teams -- who also fueled from the pumps over the weekend -- to report on anything out of the ordinary.

"For example, our race winner [Sunday] night, in post-race inspection, we did find some evidence of some water in the fuel," Darby said. "Obviously, from a performance standpoint, there wasn't an issue. [Then there was] a high level of contamination that we did find in a couple of cars, such as [Dave Blaney] and [Hamlin],where there was enough introduced into the fuel system that could potentially create some performance deterrents."

Darby said the water that entered the system was a cloudy brown color. NASCAR, Sunoco and independent labs are now testing the substance to see what it might be -- and where it might have come from.

"It's a brownish-colored water," he said. "Typically, if it was just water, it would appear to be more clear. What the residue in the water can help us understand is if it's come from a failed pipe or a pump or some other source that could allow that to enter the fuel."

Since the fuel in the underground tank continues to test clear of contamination, Darby said the focus of the investigation then moves on to the method of dispensing the fuel.

"You've got an underground tank," Darby said. "You've got plumbing that connects the underground tank to the fuel pump. And you've got the fuel pump itself. So that's where the investigation is going on now because it appears that what's in the ground in the tanks is very clean.

"So then what you look for is an area of the fueling system, whether it be the stand pipe, which connects the tank to the pump, or a pump hose, or the filtering system on the individual gas pumps, that may have picked up some water and let it pass from the pump to the cans the teams use."

It's quite possible, according to Darby, that this winds up being an anomaly.

"The introduction of what water we've seen has been in very small amounts, with the exception of a couple of cases," Darby said. "But those are the things that we're working with Sunoco to backtrack through to make sure. At the end of the day, was it one pump that had who knows what go wrong with it, or a way that the water was introduced, that for all practical purposes, may never show its face again."

Darby said NASCAR has ruled out sabotage -- and as to a conspiracy theory: "That puts that to rest because there's already way too many teams involved to select one that somebody didn't like. That helps to reinforce the teams' confidence in our security measures."

Darby also ruled out the idea that condensation could have been the culprit. Sunoco officials do routine daily inspections of the underground tank for water contamination.

"Condensation is always a concern and that's why there's such an extensive monitoring system inside the underground tanks," he said. "I think we've surpassed the amount of water that you could blame on condensation.

"What really has me puzzled is that it's not a real clear water. So once the laboratory reports come back from what the substance is and what's mixed with it -- Is it rust? Is it clay? Is it what? -- we don't know. I think that will help point us in a real good direction."
